Nashville CARES was recognized for outstanding services and free/low-cost health screenings

Nashville, Tenn. – Testing.com, a trusted informational guide for medical lab testing and at-home screening, has recognized Nashville CARES as one of the best community-based organizations in Nashville for providing vital services, such as free or low-cost STD testing and treatment, to fight the growing STD epidemic.

Research shows that overall trends in Davidson County, TN, which includes Nashville, show increasingly high rates for the city’s three most common STDs — chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The reported cases of chlamydia have increased dramatically since the low rate of 360.7 in 2001 — the first year in which data was available in Davidson County while Gonorrhea rates have fluctuated dramatically from year to year. Over the past five years, syphilis rates in Tennessee increased from a state average of 14.9 in 2014 to 25.7 in 2018. In response to this public health crisis, it’s critical that local organizations offer the community free and low-cost resources to help prevent the spread of STDs.

In 2020, Nashville CARES opened the My House Clinic, expanding on its ability to offer free or low-cost sexual health screenings and treatment. The My House Clinic is designed to be an inclusive and affirming, one-stop-shop providing medical and supportive services to meet the sexual health needs in Nashville. The clinic provides integrated HIV and STI testing and screening and has a medical team to support clients through on-site and same-day lab and pharmacy resources. Offering rapid start of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), postexposure prophylaxis (PEP), Antiretroviral therapy, HIV and primary medical care makes Nashville CARES the only local, community-based HIV organization that provides this broad range and rapid start services with the potential to address the HIV epidemic in the Nashville area.

Testing.com’s report aims to educate the public about the current health crisis and encourage people in the community to reach out to local organizations for testing and treatment options. To view the full report, please visit https://www.testing.com/std-testing/nashville-tn/.
