Fur babies, fur children – whatever terms of endearment you use for your pets, one thing’s for sure, they are part of our families, our hearts and everything we do is usually with them in mind. I’ve had dogs, cats and a bird. I remember each and every one of them. They are part of my heart forever and left a lasting impact on my life.
I was without a pet for a long time in my young adult years. When I met my wife, she had three cats. They gave me such joy again. It’s pretty well established that pets can help with depression and anxiety. That’s true for me. Our current fur babies, Franklin and Daisy, are two beagles who keep us constantly entertained. They are so happy to see us when we come home. They always want to go with us on any and all adventures. We can’t imagine our lives without them.
You too can have a best friend. In this issue, we feature adoptable pets throughout Middle Tennessee. We also talk about the health benefits from having a pet. It can be expensive owning a pet, but there are pet insurance plans that can help with unforeseen costs. We wrote about how to choose the best plan.
If you’re not in a situation where you can own a pet, consider working with rescues or shelters to foster or transport. Recently, I became a part of a couple different transport teams for rescues. We have also offered our home to foster animals in need. There are so many ways to help including donations no matter the amount.
While this is our pet issue, we do have a few other stories such as the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Lipstick Lounge, a new LGBTQ+ music artist on the rise, and an LGBT Housing Initiative that helps LGBTQ+ people purchase a home.
And finally, save the date. October 8 will be our Inaugural Bark in the Boro! This event will feature adoptable pets, games, giveaways and more. So bring your fur baby or whatever pet you own and join us for a day of fun!
