Hari Nef is a ‘Barbie’ girl

We’re very into the extreme couture energy transgender actress Hari Nef (“Transparent”) has been bringing to her delightful and impeccably attired pop-ups on series like “And Just Like That…” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” So it seems like a no-brainer that the world’s most popular fashion doll would recruit her into the fold. Nef just joined the cast of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” project. She’ll co-star alongside Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as Ken, and fellow support players America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell. Plot details are very under wraps right now, but Gerwig’s earlier films, “Lady Bird” and “Little Women,” have delivered a strong feminist presence, which makes her perhaps the perfect person to shepherd Barbie into cinemas. And we won’t pretend that outfits aren’t a highly anticipated element. Maybe the most.

Karamo, as in ‘Karamo’

When “Queer Eye” star Karamo Brown learned that his new daytime talk show, “Karamo,” had been picked up and set for a fall 2022 premiere, he “cried and cried and cried.” This is very on-brand for the man whose contributions to that series involve helping each episode’s guests deal with sometimes very emotional life challenges. As opposed to being typically celebrity-driven, “Karamo” will, it seems, deliver a lightly therapeutic vibe as he covers topics like parenting, families, race and other issues. He’ll also continue with his “Queer Eye” duties, juggling both shows and collecting both paychecks. We’re most looking forward to seeing if Brown can capture that much-missed “Oprah”-like atmosphere, because it’s a world fraught with tension where everyone seems to be upset all the time. We’ll be grateful for anything that might soothe us. 

Kristen Stewart leaps to ‘Love Lies Bleeding’

Your queer queen, Kristen Stewart, fresh from her Academy Award nomination for “Spencer,” has a new job, a romantic thriller called “Love Lies Bleeding,” from acclaimed filmmaker Rose Glass. You might not yet know Glass, but her debut feature, “Saint Maud,” caused a sensation with critics and audiences for weird new horror and scored her a couple of BAFTA nominations. We’ve been anticipating what she’ll do next, and now we know. The project — yes, Baby Boomers, it’s a reference to the ’70s Elton John song — has been set up at Film4 and A24, the latter being the home of weird new horror, naturally. Glass wrote the screenplay with Weronika Tofilska, and the plot is currently something of a secret, with a logline that promises vague references to ego and desire. But that’s fine, we like to go in cold and have our minds blown. Bring on the love and the blood.

‘Glamorous’ comes to the rescue at Netflix

We hear Netflix has some subscriber issues? Honestly, all business news sounds like the most boring swarm of bees to us and we start thinking about snacks instead. But you get our attention right back to your network when you tell us you’re ordering up a new queer show for us to stream, which is what Netflix has done with “Glamorous.” Everything we know right now: it’s a drama that was, at one point, headed to the CW, but is destined for the big red N; it stars 23-year-old non-binary YouTube singer-songwriter sensation Miss Benny (seen recently on “Fuller House,” “Love, Victor” and “American Horror Stories”) and they’ll play a gender-nonconforming person named Marjo who hits a 20-something life crisis while working in the makeup industry. Anything more than that is under wraps but, as a bit of cheeky promotional sass, co-exec producer Jordon Nardino promises “gay shit is headed your way.” Send it to us on our couches soon, thanks.
