Local Clinics partnering with Alley Cat Allies for Global Cat Day, National Feral Cat Day

Spay and neuter events in Tennessee will provide free surgeries for 200 cats and kittens on Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day.

Did you know?

  • Cats can get pregnant at 4 months old.
  • Cats can have 3 litters a year.
  • Cats can get pregnant while still nursing a litter of kittens
  • Cats can go into heat every 2-3 weeks
  • Outside cats (owned, stray or community) are the largest contributor to unwanted litters of kittens (burdening the already overwhelmed animal shelters and animal rescues)
  • Spaying and neutering is the one way to be proactive and improve this issue.

Wilson Co. and Sumner Co. spay and neuter clinics are working to fix more cats that contribute to the homeless pet issue in our community. The big fix days are scheduled in conjunction with Global Cat Day® and National Feral Cat Day®.

The JOY Clinic (Lebanon, TN) and Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance (Sumner Co.) will each spay/neuter over 100 cats this week. Alley Cat Allies is making this possible.

Global Cat Day® and National Feral Cat Day® Events Will Spay or Neuter 200 Cats in Wilson and Sumner Counties October 15 and 16

Two events in Lebanon and Gallatin, Tennessee, will spay or neuter and vaccinate 200 cats and kittens in honor of Alley Cat Allies’ Global Cat Day® and National Feral Cat Day®. The events will take place on October 15 and 16, and Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto will attend the October 15 event.

“Cats Are Community, and Global Cat Day® and National Feral Cat Day® are about embracing that global truth. Alley Cat Allies is honored to support two communities that truly protect cats like community members,” said Charlene Pedrolie, president and chief operating officer of Alley Cat Allies.

Lebanon organization New Leash on Life and Gallatin organization Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance will each provide the following for 100 cats and kittens: spay or neuter surgeries, vaccinations and other needed veterinary care, optional microchips, and, for community cats, eartips for identification as part of TNR. Cat and kitten food will also be provided to help hundreds of indoor and community cats. Alley Cat Allies will be on site to support it all.

Tuesday, October 15

Starting at 7:30 a.m. CDT, people will bring cats individually in carriers or humane traps to New Leash on Life’s The JOY Clinic at 507 Jim Draper Blvd, Lebanon, TN 37087. The event is by appointment only. Surgeries for 100 cats and kittens will take place through the day and spayed or neutered cats will be picked up from 4 to 5 p.m. No-cost cat food and Alley Cat Allies educational materials will also be provided.

“We’re excited to be back in action with Alley Cat Allies and Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance for National Feral Cat Day,” said Angela Chapman, director of New Leash on Life. “Spaying and neutering 200 cats and kittens, and feeding hundreds more, will have a positive effect far beyond just two days.”

Wednesday, October 16

Starting at 8:00 a.m. CDT, people will bring cats individually in carriers or humane traps to Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance at 720 Blythe Ave, Gallatin, TN 37066. The event is by appointment only. Surgeries for 100 cats and kittens will take place throughout the day. No-cost cat food and Alley Cat Allies educational materials will also be provided.

“We’re providing lifesaving resources for cats from at least 15 counties of Tennessee in just two days,” said Sara Felmlee, executive director of Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance. “This is a very united community in protecting cats and kittens, and we hope other communities take inspiration.”

About Global Cat Day® and National Feral Cat Day®

Global Cat Day® is on October 16 annually. National Feral Cat Day®, as a critical part of Global Cat Day®, falls on the same date. Both were created by Alley Cat Allies and are observed by millions of people every year.

Global Cat Day® is a day to embrace the global truth that Cats Are Community. This powerful statement is recognition that cats have lived alongside us for thousands of years, have a rightful place in our communities, and are beings with inherent value who deserve to be protected.

National Feral Cat Day® is the action component of Global Cat Day®—a day for people worldwide to roll up their sleeves and go out into their communities to create life-saving change for cats.

Information on Global Cat Day®, how anyone around the world can take a National Feral Cat Day® action, and more can be found on www.GlobalCatDay.org.
