In the heart of Nashville’s bustling music scene, Mark Robert Cash is carving out his niche with a blend of country, pop, and soulful melodies. From his humble beginnings singing in church to working with renowned artists like Ashley McBryde, Cash’s journey in the music industry is a testament to perseverance and passion.

The Maryland-born singer-songwriter’s journey into the world of music began at an early age. “I grew up singing in church,” Cash reminisces, tracing the roots of his musical inclination. “That turned into doing regional musical theater, and after college, I was a worship leader for a few years.”

Given his background, he has a sound that can transcend one certain style. Describing his music genre proves to be a challenge for Cash, who prefers to let the listeners interpret his style. “I’ve been labeled Country/Pop, and I’m cool with that,” he said. “There are elements of soul, gospel, pop, and country in my music.”

For Cash, relocating to Nashville was a strategic move to fully pursue his creative aspirations. “Even if music didn’t work for me, I wanted to do something in the entertainment industry,” he explained. His transition to Nashville led him unexpectedly into acting, a venture that added an exciting dimension to his career.

As an actor, he’s had the opportunity to perform on three seasons of the hit show “Nashville” as well as being highlighted in music videos for artists like Ashley McBryde, Katy Nicole, and Big Daddy Weave.

Working alongside acclaimed artists like Ashley McBryde has been a highlight of Cash’s career. “I absolutely love Ashley!” he exclaimed. Cash recalled driving around Lebanon, Tennessee blasting her ‘Girl Going Nowhere’ album. “Of course, I didn’t tell her that,” said Cash. “It was hard to be super professional and not fan girl.”

His experience on the television series “Nashville” added another layer of excitement, allowing him to rub shoulders with industry giants and create lasting memories. “I still can’t believe I landed ‘Nashville.’ It was such a crazy experience. I remember eating with the cast waiting to see if I got the job. My audition was right in the hospital set. I’ll never forget it. I sat 3 seats away from Callie Khouri. The show’s creator. She’s a freaking Oscar winner! Great memories for sure!”

Craving California

While he has enjoyed the television experience, his leading passion is music. He is working on his debut EP which he hopes to be out this year — possibly as early as the summer. Cash released his most recent single, “Craving California,” on March 8, 2024 and it has been well received. Likely because the inspiration behind it is something we have all looked for at one time or another. “Closure! We all want it. Sometimes it never comes. Am I craving a place? Am I craving an apology? We’re all craving something. Maybe ‘California’ is code for something,” Cash explained when asking for the inspiration behind the up-and-coming hit.

The video to accompany the song was also recently released and filming for it included one unforgettable moment in Cash’s career — shutting down part of Broadway in Nashville to shoot the music video. “We had a blast that night,” he recalled. “It was a new experience for me, with a ton of people taking pictures while we filmed.” Cash said he walked over to a policeman and asked if he’d get arrested for walking and filming in the street. “He said make it fast. So we did. Much love to that guy!”

Keep Pushing

Reflecting on how he is still finding footing in his journey, Cash acknowledges the inevitability of challenges in life. “All I can say is, keep pushing,” he advised. “The hard times pass, just like the good ones do.”

He knows an important factor in his success is his supporters to whom he expresses his gratitude. “Thank you to everyone who has been streaming the music,” he said. “Thank y’all for sharing my content. It makes a huge difference.”

As he embarks on the next chapter of his career, one thing remains certain — his music will continue to resonate with listeners, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene.
