There are several LGBTQ+ and ally-owned restaurants, eateries, and bars around the mid-state and beyond.  We are covering a few that stand out and consistently deliver.

The Lipstick Lounge — One of the few remaining lesbian bars in the United States, The Lipstick Lounge in Nashville is welcoming of anyone who crosses their threshold. Owners Christa Suppan and Jonda Valentine have a variety of activities for each evening and serve an amazing brunch on the weekend. The bar is complete with their “Upper Lip,” the upstairs section of the bar where you can enjoy a drink and cigar at the cigar bar.

South Press — Opening during the pandemic when so many other places were closing, South Press was an instant hit with the LGBT+ and ally communities. Owner Joslynn Fish saw a need in the community and acted to fill it, serving a cup of hot (or iced) coffee with a free side of positivity and encouragement. They have outgrown their original shop in less than a year and now offer a variety of locally made products by LGBTQ+/ally vendors and have various shows including open mic night and drag performances on a regular basis.

JOS Fifteen Coffee, Ice Cream, Bakery, and Sweets — Having outgrown their current shop in Shelbyville, owners Osmin Majano and Juan Pablo Ochoa are opening their new shop in Antioch in June. There they will be serving coffee as well as ice cream, homemade baked goods, and sweets. As the shop continues to grow, they plan on growing their menu to include a larger variety of food items.

Frankie J’s — Another new kid on the block, Frankie J’s offers a relaxed place for anyone to come, have a drink and get a bite of delicious Mexican Street Food. Located in the Germantown area of Nashville, they offer a place to come and enjoy hanging out with friends (or making new ones) and have a conversation or kill a little time until your flight departs from BNA.

The Mockingbird — In Downtown Nashville, Mockingbird is a modern diner serving up comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere. Owners Brian Riggenbach and Mikey Corona have taken the approach that no two dishes should be alike, and they draw on influences from around the world pulling inspiration from the melting pot known as America. This approach creates a truly unique dining experience that is sure to delight.

Short Mountain Distillery — Located in Woodbury this place is like no other. They have a distillery offering up boozy tours where guests can learn the history of both Tennessee Whiskey making and Cannon County. Guests can also create their own cocktails. They offer dining in a true farm-to-table experience serving elevated southern cuisine that changes with seasonal availability of ingredients. Come for a meal or, stay, tour, and explore for the whole day.

At the top of the image is a pink icon showing a maze, with a headline below reading “The Trans Youth Emergency Project Helps Families Through the Maze of Accessing Gender-Affirming Care.” Below that are three icons with text. The first is a blue and pink compass with text reading “Patient Navigation to out-of-state healthcare options,” the second is a network with a person in the middle, reading “Ecosystem of care where families can reliably turn” and the final is a blue and pink gift with text that reads “Emergency grants to offset travel and medicine costs.” Beneath that is the Trans Youth Emergency Project logo, and a line that says ““www.TransYouthEmergencyProject.org” Trans Youth Emergency Project Supports Trans Youth, Families 2 min read
